There are still plenty of opportunities for the music scene in Deventer, according to the new Talent team at Burgerweeshuis. That is why several new programs are being launched this autumn, allowing young musicians to connect, develop their skills, and take the next step in their musical careers.

In recent years, Burgerweeshuis has invested heavily in talent development, including through collaborations with schools, Deventer Talent House, and the Burger Beurs. Yet, all too often, young people disappear from the radar once a program ends. With this new initiative, Burgerweeshuis aims to maintain those connections.

Burger Band Desk

One of the new initiatives is the Burger Band Desk: a free matchmaking platform for musicians in Deventer and the surrounding area. Looking for a drummer, vocalist, guitarist, or producer? The Band Desk helps musicians find one another and also facilitates the initial meeting, guidance, and coaching.

Burger Incubator

In addition, the Burger Incubator will launch in September. This two-month program is designed for emerging acts who have their first songs and shows under their belt and are looking to grow further. With personal guidance and coaching on topics such as songwriting, marketing, and booking, participants work on their musical development and a plan for the future.

School collaborations

Collaborations with schools are also being expanded with workshops focused on songwriting and music production.

Talent Team

‍

Since this spring, Luke Pol and Iris Hermens have formed the new Talent team at Burgerweeshuis. They have started their work with great enthusiasm to develop and strengthen the music scene in Deventer.

“We don’t just want to get young people excited about music; we want to help them connect with each other and continue their development,” says talent developer Luke. “I grew up in the Deventer music scene myself. I started at the Popschool, rehearsed at the Burgerweeshuis when I was fourteen, and performed on stage for the first time here. I know how much of a difference a place like this can make. We want to be that place for a new generation of musicians now.”

Iris is an educationalist who sees how much music means to young people. “Who hasn’t played a certain record on repeat during a heartbreak? Music gives us a boost while working out, and how important is it to just enjoy a night of dancing together?! It is my mission to let as many young people as possible experience, enjoy, and create music themselves. Before this, I worked in the Music Management program at the Herman Brood Academy in Utrecht, and I am passionate about helping musicians build their profile.”

That is why the doors of the Burgerweeshuis are wide open. Do you have a question about making music, are you feeling stuck as an artist, or are you unsure of your next step? Come by for a cup of coffee and a chat.

With the new Talent Team, the Burgerweeshuis aims to build a music scene where talent can find each other more easily, get the space to grow, and above all: get plenty of opportunities to make music.
