There are still plenty of opportunities for the Deventer music scene, according to the new Talent team, consisting of Iris Hermens and Luke Pol. That is why several new programs are being launched this autumn, allowing young musicians to find each other, develop their skills, and take the next step in their musical careers.

In recent years, the Burgerweeshuis has invested heavily in talent development, including through collaborations with schools. In addition, the venue set up successful programs with Deventer Talenthouse and the Burger Beurs. Yet, young people often disappear from view after a program ends. With the new initiative, the Burgerweeshuis aims to maintain those connections.

‍

Burger Bandloket

One of the new initiatives is the Burger Bandloket: a free matchmaking platform for musicians in Deventer and the surrounding area. Are you looking for a drummer, vocalist, guitarist, or producer? The Bandloket helps musicians find one another and also facilitates the initial meeting, guidance, and coaching.

Burger Broedplaats

In addition, the Burger Broedplaats is launching. This approximately two-month program is intended for emerging acts who have their first songs and shows and want to grow further. With personal guidance and coaching on topics such as songwriting, marketing, and bookings, participants work on their musical development and a plan for the future.

School collaborations

Collaborations with schools are also being expanded with workshops on songwriting and music production. Furthermore, a new coaching program is being set up for the growing group of Deventer producers, where experienced producers share their knowledge and creators can further develop their productions.

Talent Team

"We don't just want to get young people excited about music; we also want to help them find each other and develop further," says talent developer Luke. "I grew up in the Deventer music scene myself. I started at the Popschool, rehearsed at the Burgerweeshuis as a fourteen-year-old, and performed on stage here for the first time. I know how much of a difference a place like this can make. We want to be that place for a new generation of musicians now."

Iris is an educationalist and sees how much music means to young people. "Who hasn't played a certain record to death during a heartbreak? Music gives us a boost while working out, and how important is it to just enjoy a night of dancing together?! It is my mission to let as many young people as possible experience, enjoy, and create music themselves. I previously worked at the Music Management program at the Herman Brood Academy in Utrecht, and I am happy to help musicians build their profile."

That is why the doors of the Burgerweeshuis are wide open. Do you have a question about making music, are you stuck as an artist, or are you unsure of your next step? Come by for a cup of coffee and a chat.

With the new Talent team, the Burgerweeshuis wants to build a Deventer music scene where talent finds each other more easily, gets room to grow, and, above all, gets plenty of opportunities to make music.
