As a driving force in pop and club culture, we provide a professional stage within the music world. From this central role, we stimulate various initiatives, build collaborations, and support ambitious talent in their development and their search for a unique sound and identity.
Burgerweeshuis is an open space with room for self‑expression, diversity, and growth. A home base for various (sub)cultures. It’s where you meet artists, discover new talent, and make new friends.
Our dedicated team works with passion and joy in a pop venue that’s just a little different. We do this together with a group of 124 volunteers.For 40 years, Burgerweeshuis has been located in the beautiful, historic, and characterful building on Bagijnenstraat.
With an intimate main hall and a cozy café, it’s a place music lovers return to again and again. We also program events at various locations throughout the beautiful city of Deventer
Burgerweeshuis offers the city and its surroundings a diverse music program. Over the years, legends such as Solomon Burke, Xzibit, Soundgarden, Jeff Mills, Grandmaster Flash, as well as Dutch greats like Doe Maar, DeWolff, De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig, and Goldband have taken the stage.
There is room for all genres, for local and regional talent, and for innovative projects. The artists who perform at Burgerweeshuis describe it best themselves: "Burgerweeshuis is a home away from home".
