This year, the Citizen Orphanage is also taking three Overijssel bands under its wing as part of the Burger Beurs talent development process. The 2025 roster consists of garage punk band Badminton, the Dutch-language poetic altrock band Jongman and Deventer psychedelic indie-rock band The Cradles.

For a year, these musicians can make use of the resources, knowledge and network of the Citizen Orphanage, plus a budget to develop productions and themselves. Previous artists who received the Burger Beurs include Snelle, De Sluwe Vos, Pjotr, Boogie Monster, Vera Bon, Babs, Oh Whale, Droom Dit and FAMKE.

Badminton

The four mourners make music to mosh to, spill beer and wring out your old Ramones tee on.

Luca de la Haye's voice is reminiscent of Liam Gallagher but the band builds a sound around it with a drummer who beats you around the ears, a bassist who provides the necessary load of poop and balls and guitarists who pedal their fuzz and distortion pedals as if they were happily hitting the A35 with the tandem.

Badminton shares the stories you experience as you grow up; finding and losing love, seeking self-confidence, and weathering the whirlwind that has brought you in your 20s.

“With Burger Beurs 2025, we will go into the studio to record our 2nd EP and we will work on designing our act, on and off stage.

For a year, we're going to build a new world around Badminton, where all our childhood dreams can find a place.”

The Cradles

The Cradles, a psychedelic indie rock band, takes you on a dreamy journey through the feeling of aging and finding your place together.

The reverby guitars, poetic lyrics, and deep inspiration from music from all over the world dug on a continuum from classic 1960s psychedelics to modern indie, and everything in between.

This year, the band at the Burger Beurs wants to focus on further professionalizing their music, by using the Burgerweeshuis network. In addition, they are going to work on a new EP, with the mountain of new music they have lying around.

Young man

If we start from scratch, we can go in any direction. With this in mind, Jonman researches, discovers and creates.

Inspired by the lyrics of artists like Typhoon and Spinvis, with sounds that sound like Porcupine Tree and even Rage Against The Machine. In their own way, Jongman pays tribute to creation.

“We are going to use the Burger Beurs to make and release our second EP and to get a grip on our peripheral issues.”

Last year, Deventer hosted metalcore band Reality Spill, Dutch-language alternative pop rock artist FAMKE, and indie pop-folk songwriter Levi Major. The Burger Beurs is an initiative by the Burgerweeshuis music venue and is made possible in part by the Province of Overijssel.
