North Mississippi Allstars
North Mississippi Allstars is an American blues and southern rock band from Mississippi, formed in 1996. Their debut, 'Shake Hands with Shorty', was released in 2000.
The band was founded by brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson, starting as a loose collective of like-minded second-generation musicians who shared a local repertoire and regional style. They aimed to sound like their idols R.L. Burnside and Mississippi Fred McDowell, but with a gritty rock edge, reminiscent of The Black Keys or The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.
Since 2000, the brothers have consistently delivered solid albums. They have also collaborated with John Hiatt, Duwayne Burnside (son of R.L. Burnside), and former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant. Their most recent album, 'Set Sail', was released in 2022.
The Dickinsons have recorded albums and toured with Mavis Staples, Charlie Musselwhite, John Hiatt, Robert Plant, Patty Griffin, G. Love, Jon Spencer, The Tedeschi Trucks Band, Los Lobos, and The Black Crowes.
Their debut, 'Shake Hands with Shorty' (2000), earned the band the first of four GRAMMY® nominations and changed the Dickinson brothers' lives forever. Their current tour celebrates the 25th anniversary of this album.
