In the mid-1950s, a new musical style emerged in Jamaica. Mento, calypso, and African rhythms were blended with new Western music (rock 'n' roll, boogie-woogie), resulting in the most swinging music the world had ever heard: ska! Only one band can still bring this history to life: The Skatalites, who have been around for 60 years.

‍

Founded in 1964 in Kingston, Jamaica, The Skatalites started as the house band for artists under the Studio One label. They can be heard on the first recordings of Bob Marley and the Wailers and Prince Buster, but they also released their own instrumental work.

‍

Their influence extends far beyond ska and reggae, impacting genres such as rocksteady, dancehall, dub, reggaeton, hip-hop, and rap. Jamaican music has a global impact, largely thanks to the innovative sound of The Skatalites. This year, they are celebrating their 60th anniversary with a special tour.
