Femi Kuti & The Positive Force
Once again this year in June, the atmospheric courtyard of the Burgerweeshuis is the setting for a multi-faceted series of garden concerts where sparks fly. The special setting provides a special vibe time and time again.
Femi Kuti has been a powerful voice for justice for decades and, as the eldest son of the legendary Fela Kuti, he continues the revolutionary Afrobeat legacy as a weapon for social change. With razor-sharp lyrics about political corruption and social inequality and an irresistible mix of funk, jazz and highlife, he creates an explosive, danceable sound that touches and wakes up.
A Femi live show is pure magic. Expect pumping rhythms, his inspired saxophone playing and a stage that brims with energy. Together with his band Positive Force and dynamic dancers, a dazzling spectacle is created where music, dance and activism merge into one collective celebration.
With his latest album, Journey Through Life, Femi shows a new side of herself. In addition to his familiar political enthusiasm, he delves deeper into personal themes such as family, life and inner growth. A powerful but also introspective step forward.
After starting in Fela's Egypt '80, he founded his own band Positive Force in 1986, enriching Afrobeat with influences from R&B, rock and hip-hop. His mission is clear: music as an engine for change — on stage and off.
